Classical Singing

The voice is the oldest and most perfect instrument, while singing is a term for a specific manner of implementing the human voice in music.
The sound is produced by the vocal cords, and singing is considered a form of continuous speech on the breath.
Singers can perform with or without the assistance of musical instruments (a cappella).
Opera singing requires most demanding technique. Singers, regardless of talent, must go through vocal training in order to properly perform the repertoire.
The basic classification of voice registers is:
– For female voice: alto, mezzo-soprano, soprano
– For male voice: bass, baritone, tenor
